First light on the path
Wake to birdsong and the smell of frangipani. Coffee on the veranda, the garden still wet.
Cave House Kilifi — known locally as Ajpgrotte — is a private home and garden carved into a quiet corner of the Kenyan coast.
Lime-washed walls. Mangrove beams. Verandas dressed in bougainvillea. A makuti roof catching the afternoon. A pool, a path, and — beneath it all — a chamber of coral rag that travellers have been finding shelter in for centuries.
A natural chamber of coral rag, carved by millennia and lit by lantern. Set with linen and wildflowers, it becomes our private dining room — for long lunches, slow dinners, and quiet celebrations.
Set for two, or twenty. Linen, lanterns, wildflowers from the garden.
Coastal Kenyan cooking, woven with what the day brings.
Intimate weddings, milestone dinners, creative gatherings.
Standalone cottages and rooms tucked through the garden — each with its own character, all with the same coastal quiet.

Wake to birdsong and the smell of frangipani. Coffee on the veranda, the garden still wet.

The pool is best before noon — quiet, glass-still, framed by neem and mango.

Long table. Linen. Wildflowers from the garden. A meal that runs into the afternoon.

Books, hammocks, and the slow Kilifi wind through the arches. A long siesta is encouraged.

The light turns honeyed. Drinks are poured. The day softens into evening.

Candles in the cave. Stars above the makuti. The coast hums on outside.

“We came for two nights and stayed for ten. The cave, the garden, the way the light moves at four in the afternoon — none of it leaves you.”
